A sculptural timber music studio stands proud in a large London garden.

The client was looking to build a studio in her garden to be used for teaching music. She approached us after having met with a number of garden studio specialists who had presented off-the-shelf proposals that failed to meet the design ambitions and collaborative aspirations that she had for the project.
As well as being aesthetically exciting, the structure also needed to function for its purpose as a space for music, so acoustic requirements were of foremost importance. We worked very closely with the client to understand what she wanted to achieve on a practical level from the space and to help her unlock her own aesthetic vision for it.
The solution was to create an angular building, clad in a high quality Iroko wood to create a sculpture within the landscape. This was contrasted internally with warm Birch wood walls. Due to the architectural merits of the building, we were able to achieve planning permission for this contemporary garden building in a conservation area with a strict planning policy. The main room featured a vaulted ceiling with a number of surrounding textures and angles to reduce reverberation. We also fitted a WC, storage room and lobby area. As part of our service we also assisted with the design of the hard external landscaping which was an integral part of the new garden room.

“My new garden studio is nestled so well within the tall beautiful trees that it makes it a constant pleasure to behold.
The design is a success from so many vantage points, inside and out. It has the height to make me feel at home and the breadth of windows to absorb the garden setting. It is such a successful building. Thank you!”
